Roger Hobcraft joined MPH in 1990, and has been our treasurer since 1995. A legend in his own lifetime as our Panto dame, Roger also does a fabulous job Front of House and takes all our cast photos.
His two favourite Pantomimes couldn’t be more different - Panto at the OK Corral (2002) and Aladdin (1997), because he says he loves playing Widow Twankey and performing with Steve, Ruth and Terry.
His acting career started early, playing Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, whilst still at school. We’re not sure where the long felt wont to be a dame came from, but he has certainly taken it to his (ample) bosom... Amongst his most memorable Panto moments are singing an inspired arrangement of “Summertime” (just ask someone who heard it).., and performing a striptease (complete with large love-heart bloomers) in almost every MPH Pantomime.
He loves Ray Cooney comedy plays, but couldn’t give us a favourite film line as he says he’s falls asleep early most nights. So why does he like being part of Minster Playhouse? Socially, it’s a great crowd, and he enjoys the challenge of learning his lines (!) and balancing the books.
